In a city of parks, the barrio of Palermo is king. With nearly
340 acres of parks, wooded areas and lakes, this
neighborhood exemplifies Buenos Aires love affair with
nature. "Spring in the Park" is a picture that could have

Buenos Aires.

With its neoclassical facade, and 12 Corinthian colums
representing the apostles, the Metropolitan Cathedral is the
one of the cornerstones of the Plaza de Mayo in the barrio
Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires. The square itself is perhaps
more familiar to outsiders for the balcony Scene in the
1996 picture Evita. "Homeless" is a picture that was taken
of a person sleeping in front of a door of the  cathedral
facing the plaza.

Buenos Aires European heritage, evident in its architecture
and plazas,  has earned it the nickname "Paris of the
Americas." This building on the Plaza de Mayo was the
inspiration for this photo.

One of the most prominent landmarks in Buenos Aires,
the "Obelisk of Buenos Aires" rises 221 feet. Built in
1936, open-air concerts are often held in this area.

This is a look down Avenida "Nueve de Julio" in Buenos
Aires toward the obelisk. There are narrow park like areas
on each side of the road that separate it from the streets
of Cerrito to one side and Carlos Pellegrini to the other. Its
like a verdant canyon nestled between the buildings.

In the picture "Spring in Buenos Aires" you can see how they
have melded parks, sidewalks, streets, and buildings into an
atmosphere that begs you to enter. This is a view down one
of the sidewalks that line the park like areas between Cerrito
Avenue and Avenida Nueve de Julio.

"Steel Magnolia" is a 10 meter tall sculpture of a flower
located in the United Nations Plaza in Buenos Aires. It
opens at daybreak and closes during the night. It was
donated to the city by the Argentinian arcuitect Eduardo
Catalano, born in Buenos Aires. A hydraulic device opens
"Floralis Generica" in the morning and closes it at sunset.
